Our client is among the most influential and high-profile employee organisations in the State of Victoria. It represents the industrial, legal and welfare interests of its members.  We are seeking a self-directed professional with strong interpersonal and communication skills to undertake the role Assistant Industrial Officer within the Industrial Relations Section. The team comprises of Industrial Officers (including officers focused on WorkCover and occupational safety matters) and provides advice and represents the organisation’s members on a range of industrial matters.

Reporting to the Manager and/or Assistant Manager responsibilities include:

  • Provide information and advice to members in industrial relations, equal opportunity and anti-discrimination, occupational health and safety and worker’s compensation matters.
  • Assist Industrial Officers in the preparation and presentation of cases before various tribunals.
  • Assist in developing and implementing policy particularly on industrial relations issues.
  • Conduct research on industrial matters.
  • Contribute to the development and conduct of campaigns including through participating in meetings with members and engagement with delegates.
  • Provide advice and support to the Industrial Relations Manager and/or Assistant Industrial Manager
  • Represent the organisation in various forums.
  • Some intra/interstate travel as required.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • A working knowledge of relevant industrial legislation, in particular: Fair Work Act 2009; Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2013; Occupational Health & Safety Act 2004 and Equal Opportunity Act (Victoria) 2010
  • Ability to work effectively within a complex industrial relations environment.
  • A high standard of communication skills both verbal and written
  • Sound analytical and research skills.
  • Industrial relations experience is desirable.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications are desirable.

Applicants should have a good working knowledge of employment law and communication skills with the ability to influence and negotiate outcomes.
